Xàvita

The city preserves a rich artistic heritage, which we discovered on our way: the Renaissance collegiate church; the hermitage of San Felix, the oldest in the city (they say it was a Mozarabic temple and that James I rebuilt it); the church of Sant Pere, where Alexander VI was baptized, the Royal Hospital, which retains intact its original Renaissance facade; the palaces of the Marquis of Montortal and Alarcó. And the fountains: the fountain of San Francisco, baroque; the fountain of the Trinity, gothic; and the fountain of the 25 spouts, neoclassical. It stands out above all, with 30 towers and four fortified gates, its enormous castle, the result of the fusion of an Iberian-Roman fortress and an Arab fortress. From the castle descend the walls that until the 10th century enclosed the Roman city. Later a second wall was added that covered what is now the historic center.

Alzira

Alzira is a mecca for hiking and climbing in the Comunitat Valenciana thanks to the vertical walls and landscape of La Murta, where history and nature go hand in hand, hiding forests of ash trees and an evocative monastery in ruins. The Monastery of La Murta was created by the agglutination of different hermitages from the 14th and 15th centuries and still conserves a tower, the Palomo tower, which is well worth a visit. The green colour of these areas and the countless orange groves create an exceptionally attractive environment that invites you to lose yourself, especially in the areas near the river Júcar.

But Alzira is also about culture and heritage, such as that of its Vila district, which houses the historic centre. Don't forget the Church of Santa Catalina and its interesting Baroque façade, or its walls of Arab origin built in the 9th century, which have been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest and Historical Heritage of Spain. You can discover them in some sections, sometimes protected by glass panels.
